Yes, I too think "external events" will strongly affect the market, and the economy:

The market is responding to the first battle of a war, and we lost that battle. We will win some of the battles, and I think we will win the war, or at least decrease the threat to an acceptable level (like Israel has). When we win a battle, and people can see the end of the war, there will be a rally, as breathtaking as the recent selloff has been. And that will be a selling opportunity, just as the last 2 days have been buying opportunities. We are hearing a lot of companies announce share buybacks, something that has been missing until now.

I got lucky in 1998, buying my entire position in AMAT LEAPs at the exact bottom. This time, the valuations on the semi-equips are (still) higher than at the 1998 or 1996 bottoms. My current AMAT plan: Message 16373753

If anything the one area that will RECOVER first will be Semi/COmms/TECH. If the consumer vanishes into his home, he will be surfing, watching DVD's and hooking up with High speed data. I would also think the Xbox and home pc's would benifit a litlle too. I think the services/Real estate/construction is the area that is in BIG trouble. New Airports, and Govt projects will require technology not Frapachino's.
