Mary, from my viewpoint, people acting in the name of "political correctness" have done more to harm than help the open exchange of ideas.

But that's not the only problem I have with the PC movement. The real problem I have is the notion that watching what you say will somehow solve all of the problems associated with prejudice and hate. It's the perfect example of a cosmetic solution. And even people who know exactly what is and isn't politically correct can still harbor prejudice and hate.

The real problem lies in the heart of each and every human being. Real change comes from within, not from without. And that's why you'll never see me supporting the notion of politically correctness, even as a means to an end.

Mary,

I have the US Flag flying in front of my house right now. I usually display the flag on holidays (Fourth, Memorial, Veterans, and Flag day)....

Flying the flag normally is not a cool thing to do in this community atlthough there are a few more flags besides my own that are now flying.

I am surprised to see so many New Yorkers, who in the past were "too sophisticated" for something like showing some patriotism, displaying US flags.

The flags were impossible to find in the week following the attack. Good thing that one of our employees brought in a flag for window in our office.

Joe

PS: Hmm.. I wonder how Ralf Lauren did following the attacks...
