I say deal with the devil you know. There are far worse than Saddam, I trust you realize. One of the reasons we haven't overthrown Saddam is because there is no one acceptable to the United States to take his place. The "opposition" consists of unstable and radical factions, many of which are just as much terrorist organizations, and just as much funded by Tehran, as Hezbollah. Iraq would not be any more inward looking than it already is. The Hussein family isn't the Brady bunch, with Saddam's two sons at each other's throats, and both of them licking their chops at their father's throne. Basically, we have only a choice of evils.
