Where did that wow-ful! rally come from? All you gotta do is just mention Bob Rubin's name. Nice little breeze from the Clinton-era markets.

According to Fleck It seemed as though the rally was sparked by a meeting in Washington among government officials, including Bush, Greenspan, Lawrence Lindsey, and -- surprise, surprise -- Bob Rubin. If that meeting produces not much of anything, I would think we would revisit the lows of today pretty quickly. However, it's quite likely that the government will try to conjure up something that sounds good, since it seems this body is intent on driving stock prices higher through whatever means available. Whatever they might come up with won't work, but their efforts might produce a spirited rally if it's something people can sink their teeth into.
