You really think he can save his country this way ? Well, i guess it depends on the definition of 'save'... The place will become a hell hole soon. There will be a civil war within his country.....it will tear them apart... I dunno what he should do...its a lose lose situation for the guy......damned if he does, damned if he doesn't... Indian Foreign policy used to be kinda similar in Mrs Gandhi's time...but they had the pledge of a Soviet Union backing, although that backing was rarely exploited except as a negotiated alliance...and that kinda maintained a balance of powers in the region... I guess because of its internal political instability, Pakistan has been running around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to create external diversions, scrapping alliances, crafting new alliances, pissing off its allies, trying to make new ones...but not succeeding much....very similar to Austalian Foreign policy i must say...which cannot decide if it wants to belong too Asia, coz most of its neighbors are Asians...or whether it wants to align itself with the Western powers, coz its roots are from the West..... India has been much the same, the only difference being the democratic roots, which have preserved a bare minimum semblance of sanity in their political system......otherwise it has been just as bad... Anyway, to answer your question, i don't see a way out for him. He...and his country...are both cornered either way. I am very sad this is happening...for an unrest in Pakistan will prove detrimental to the health of the entire region of Central Asia. With China emerging as a power to be reckoned with, it spells trouble for everyone...the whole world... I am very confident that US govt is well aware of the delicate balances...and may not choose to use Pakistan as any more than a mediator or a negotiator...they can position the aircraft carriers and shoot missiles and a ground war is not necessary anyway, since the terrain is not very favorable... If Pakistani soil or air space is used however....I believe the country may be torn apart by a civil war....I expect Indo China alliance to become tighter....I expect a very troubled Central Asia. God help us then...
