It is possible that we are attempting to corner Pakistan for help, and then will let them out of it to save face domestically, and thus stabilizing that country against the Taliban. More likely, though, we are so pissed off right now that anybody who gets in our way can go f*ck themselves. That is one of two ways historically that we have gotten ourselves into trouble. The other is when we so demonize an enemy that anybody who helps us against that enemy is our friend, no matter how unsavory or unethical. I have confidence in our leadership, but an appreciation of how terribly difficult this is going to be to pull off.
