It wouldn't be easy, but forming an airfield defense perimeter would not be that difficult, since we could readily take out any radar-guided weapons, or artillery. The main concern would probably be Stingers, which could be a problem for approaching aircraft under 8k feet or so. The bigger problem, though, would be forward sorties into the hills, if they were low-level. That is what got the Soviets into trouble.
