There was a big debate over twinning Canberra with Nara in Japan. A lot of the Veterans objected. Burma railway is often mentioned here. Lots of Australians died building that. Wasn't there a movie a few years ago about women in some Japanese camp? Other movies too on Japanese atrocities. The main Japanese attack on the Australian mainland in Darwin has always been downplayed. It was almost as bad as Pearl Harbor (American ships lost) authorities apparently didn't want people to be too alarmed at the time.

There might not be so much focus on what the Japanese did in China say - foreign country...

In England Coventry and the bombing of London of course are well known. The bombing of London probably wasn't unreasonable in the context of the times though. And everyone must be well aware of the holocaust.

I don't really see so much imbalance here.
