No, you just have to be born here. If you are leaving another country, maybe I can see why you need to change allegiance with a pledge. If you didn't do this, spies and terrorists might get in. Oh wait, Aldrich Ames probably took lots of pledges and oaths, and one of the prime suspects in the WTC bombing was a naturalized citizen, who also took this pledge. Hmmm, maybe we should rethink the effectiveness of such an approach.
