Some very touching letters.. <Hello Iqbal, I am new to your thread, you seem a very wise man. I read with great interest your posts concerning last week's tragic times. These are very upsetting times, but I am sure we shall prevail. On a personal note, my wife is very worried for me as I am a fireman. She is also worried for her job as she works for an airline.I assure her I will be safe but I know she worries for our finances. I have a little money to invest...any ideas? Thankyou for your time and god bless,> Any ideas thread???? <my dear ike, i have missed you so much...what a world we live in..my husband and i went to florida to set my daughter up in an apartment for grad school and our flight to come home was tuesday..well you know what happened..we got home late sat night and ive been a walking zombie ever since..finally got onto the computer and by chance went to your site..and there you are..!!!! so wonderful to have you back, but wish it was under different circumstances..are you ok...i have an extra bedroom and a couch downstairs if you need to flee your country..im a very good cook and my husband is a great guy..im serious..glad to have you back at si..>

Iqbal... I appreciate reading your words and I sincerely believe that Pakistanis who support the US efforts will be rewarded with the economic assistance you need. I do have one question for you though... It's something that has evaded my analysis thus far. We understand that the Taleban were heavily supported by Pakistan's ISI from their inception, to present day. They considered the Taleban to be allies.. But I have a hard time understanding why a relatively westernized Pakistan would wish to create such an tyrannical Islamic theocracy in Afghanistan. Would it not be merely a question of time before the Taleban would undercut your own society, convinced that their own power would be compromised by the relatively open society that existed in Pakistan?? Was it opium? Was it merely that the ISI wished to strip the various warlords of their power through the installation of this repressive regime? I really can't make much sense of motivated the ISI to get in bed with this bunch of snakes. Help me out here... Thanks.. Hawkmoon
