Korean Consortium to Begin CDMA Business in Vietnam
09/20(Thu)15:20

SLD Telecom, a joint venture between SK Telecom, LG Electronics and Donga
Telecom is to start Code Division Multiple Access, or CDMA services in Vietnam early
next year. SK Telecom announced Wednesday that SLD Telecom has secured
approval from the Vietnamese government for a partnership with Saigon Post and
Telecommunication Service Corporation, or SPT to manage CDMA operations in the
local industry.

The final approval is a follow-up measure to a promise made by Vietnamese
President Tran Duc Luong back in August to issue South Korea a license to
participate in the mobile telecommunication project.

The two companies will conduct CDMA services in Vietnam for the next 15 years with
SLD Telecom supplying capital, CDMA technology and related know-how, and SPT
providing business rights and access to reception frequencies in return. SK Telecom
officials said a CDMA network is expected to be ready for operation in major cities
including Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi by the end of the year.
