Well, since I have been there (in 1973 and 1982), I find that it is a lot more pleasant and takes less resolve to buy when things are really low than to maintain a short position when things are running our of control. Even if your stocks drop further, you at least own a part of something, if you pay a decently low price for it and buy the right company.

I mis-spoke myself somewhat in my last message. I have been holding MAGS for a long time and see no reason to dump it just because it got a big run-up with our horrible disaster, and I did not get rid of all my oil and gas stocks, by any means, because they represent real claims on essential commodities.

I think big inflation is coming, with the government trying to bail everyone and everything out. By "big inflation" I mean several years of inflation running from 6% to 12%, halving the value of the dollar again over the next ten years.
