Terrorists like McVeigh and others arose because of dissatisfaction with the government at home. If only the government did things to delegitimize the perceived claims of the terrorists at home and abroad, they are unlikely to be around. Unfortunately big power must always assert itself with little or no regard for the little guy. The big hammer must always come crashing down with a loud resounding thump! No ifs or buts! Do as I do and do as I say! I think all this talk about loss of freedoms and freedoms having been fought for and paid for with lives is all a crock/malarky to justify government's action in fighting wars and is parroted by the unthinking because it sounds so appealing and noble. All that freedom talk is brought in to scare the shit out of the citizenry and/or to console those people who have lost relatives fighting in the wars and to en-noble the fallen. Let's face it. If we are attacked, we fight back. Plain and simple as that. We don't want to be subjugated to another way of life. There is really no need to bring in all that freedom BS. To me anyway, it's unnecessary. But government propagandists use it often as they realize they can get a lot of mileage out of it. It's really sad that too many folks sound like they are about to lose all their freedom. It's like they are throwing in the towel even before the fight has begun. Do you now see what "brainwashing"/propaganda has done to you? And IMHO, we have no right to impose our way of life on others. Rather, if we wish others to follow us, we ourselves must set a good example. If we are seen to be always wanting to impose our way of life on others, we may even be regarded as being afraid of others and they will likely exploit that fear, real or imagined, to their advantage. In a sense, the proverb which says, "Let sleeping dogs lie" makes a lot of sense here. But of course, we must always be on our guard. Mind you, when you lock your front door at night, it does not necessarily mean you don't trust your neighbours. There is no smoke without fire. Every action has its reaction regardless of whether the action is good or bad. The history of Mankind is replete with the concatenations of actions and reactions of individuals and countries upon one another. There is individual Karma. And national and international Karma! Yea, as you sow, so shall you reap! Yea, remember the Golden Rule! Canada has a ***history*** of not meddling with other countries' affairs and, as such, it is very well regarded in the world community, and so it is unlikely that it will be attacked by "Jihad" terrorists. But, of course, US holdings and installations may not be immune here. Look at Switzerland, a tiny country. It doesn't meddle with other peoples' affairs, and so nobody bothers to attack it. By contrast, the US always likes to impose its way of life on others and meddle with other peoples' business or so it seems. Thus it appears very cocky and it is disliked, and this circumstance is being exploited by the "crazies/terrorists" which represent but a tiny fraction of other peoples. As the US is the most powerful country in the world, it can easily handle them. But, of course, the US must not be cocky. (Lest anyone should think that my sentiments tend to legitimize enmity against the US, it should be realized that I am not that influential and, besides, the enemy already has its own convictions long, long ago.) To illustrate, the US had received from its allies, on at least 20 occasions (documented in an article in the Manchester Guardian), advanced information on impending attacks but surprisingly it didn't act defensively soon enough. The result was a kick in the butt every time. I find it incomprehensible that a country with the most advanced info-gathering technology & eavesdropping devices had failed to protect itself on several occasions. Worse, it even failed to catch for many years its own turncoat spy (Hansen) operating right under its very nose until a Rusky blew his cover. No one is perfect! So let others be. But keep one's ass always covered! No need to scare the shit or hell out of people. But rather, like a grandmaster of chess, keep making good subtle moves, keep snuffing out potential attacks/combinations and ensure coming out on top (if not, with a draw, at least.) Oh, and by the way, human beings are very flexible and adaptable creatures!!! They can adapt themselves to living under different conditions! VBG! ***Except when it is really necessary such as standing behind the US in certain matters.
