It is not a bad column, and one can hardly disagree that purely cathartic action will not do. However, catharsis is required: we need to see some action, soon, that seems to satisfactorily smash the enemy. I am also not sure that we will not know when it is substantially over, although, of course, he is right that it cannot be a simple, neat surrender. Nevertheless, I think we will know when we have dealt a series of severe enough blows to declare that the military phase of action is over.......
