Few Christians nowadays take it for granted that everyone else is going to Hell, regardless of how they rationalize it. For those who do think that the unconverted will go to Hell, one cannot say, until they are dead, that they are going to Hell anyway, since they might always be converted. For the most part, if a mainstream denomination refers to service to God, it means little more than conforming to ordinary morality, plus some charitable activity. Of course, there are some points of controversy, like abortion. But since I have met Evangelicals who were hardliners on the issue, and Evangelicals who support the right to abort in the first trimester, I cannot say there is much of a party line. Anyway, I am not sure what you are getting at, do you disagree with the general point about content being the main issue?
