Jabil reports lower earnings for Q4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept 18 (Reuters) - Electronics manufacturing services provider Jabil Circuit Inc. (NYSE:JBL - news) said on Thursday that its fiscal fourth-quarter profit fell 76 percent on continued weakness in demand for circuit boards.

St. Petersburg, Florida-based Jabil, whose primary business is the manufacture of printed circuit boards for major computer companies, reported earnings for the quarter ended Aug. 31 of $11.2 million, or 6 cents per share, compared with earnings of $47.1 million, or 24 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.

On a pro forma basis the company reported earnings of $26 million, or 13 cents per share. The average estimate of 28 brokers surveyed by Thomson Financial/First Call was for pro forma earnings of 14 cents per share.

Jabil also said in a statement that it was actively pursuing possibilities for strategic acquisitions.

Shares in Jabil closed down 1 cent at $15 on the New York Stock Exchange. Year to date, shares in Jabil are down 41 percent, in line with similar losses in the sector.
