THE INVESTIGATION
'Watch List' Didn't Get to Airline
Security: Federal authorities were suspicious of two hijackers, but warning wasn't shared.
By DAVID WILLMAN and ALAN C. MILLER, TIMES STAFF WRITERS
WASHINGTON -- Federal law enforcement authorities did not notify
American Airlines that two men with links to terrorist Osama bin Laden
were on a "watch list" before they helped hijack a flight from Dulles
International Airport last week, according to individuals with direct
knowledge of the matter.
Even before they had reserved their tickets for the Los Angeles-bound
flight that crashed into the Pentagon, Khalid Al-Midhar and Nawaq
Alhamzi were known to federal law enforcement authorities.
Neither the FBI nor other authorities, who had identified them as
possible terrorist figures and placed them on a watch list, signaled any
concern about the two men to the airline, according to the sources.
Watch lists are intended to allow a number of federal law enforcement
agencies to run names of people entering the U.S. with the aim of
questioning or detaining potential terrorists or other criminals. Critics say the government and the airline industry ought to have a better system for distributing information about suspected terrorists.

another feather in the cap of the "intelligence" community?

I don't play the yes-or-no game as a matter of principle. (It's a favorite tactic of bash-radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.) Guys like you are fond of asking yes-or-no questions, then playing "Gotcha!"

Re JLA: He has consistently bashed unions for the past 12 months, so my hard-line responses to him today were based on what he has said the previous year, and not only today. These aren't false allegations. JLA hates unions, he hates what they stand for, he hates the people in them. His father apparently has battled unions for decades. JLA is very proud of that fact.

He didn't really even argue his position today with much intensity or conviction. I figured some of his Konservative Koffee Klub pals would come to his defense after he and I started going at it. Thanks once again for not disappointing.

He dug his own grave on this one by bashing America's working men and women.

Pro,
I'm shocked! You of all people posted the following...."Actually, my post required only a yes or no answer."

You of all people to ask a yes or no question! Pro, do you remember the yes or no question that I asked of you...you remember the question, that if you answer, will either make you a liar or prove that your dogma that you preach is a myth.

By the way! Just got back from that remote isolated village in the middle of no-where Asia. All your relatives back there said that when you lived there you had one of those ivory Buddha "thing-a-majiggies" hanging around your neck. And you were preaching that Budda so loved the world. I told them that you had another head honcho now and that he was saving the world. They said they had never heard of your honcho, but asked if he could call. They were a little miffed that he had ignored them all these years, considering they were a part of the WORLD.
