I don't think the problem is "teat". I think that waste is inherent in very large organizations. I suspect Intel is somewhat more wasteful than a much smaller organization. I think that if Intel were the size of the federal government it would have a substantial amount of waste.

Your defining waste narrowly. I won't argue that a large government program on the scale of providing fiber to every home wouldn't have waste. But you don't include the broader waste in the private market as capital is lost in poor investments. The question is would a project like fiber to the home provide advantages that outweigh the inherent waste. Would fiber to every home create or decrease overall wealth?

Duke, <<<That is the essence of the problem with the government Teat, no one care who pays for it. And it is this very reason that causes the consequent real loss to us in the business world.>>>

I generally agree with you. Government can never pick winners or losers as to industry or any profit making enterprise. If nothing else, it is impossible to overcome politics that would inevitably be involved.

Nevertheless, when the Soviet Union sent the first satellite into space (Sputnik), we had to respond with our own space program. We could not wait for the business world to respond.

As a result of the US space program, we now have satellite communications - something that could not have happened if government and private enterprize did not collaborate.

My point is therefore, you can never say never. You can't close the door or your mind on anything. Acting out any mantra is dangerous.
