On a slightly brighter note, at least for those with an interest in Sun, as I recall the days leading up to the Gulf War, there was a scramble to obtain Sparc-based computers. At the time, a local Austin company, CompuAdd, was a third-party provider of such systems, and did quite well (until they later went bankrupt as their business shifted back to selling PC's). The military was (and I believe still is) a large consumer of Unix machines.
