Surely the campaigns of Alexander are worthy of study for any thread entitled WAR. He is perhaps the most studied general of all times. The British and Russians ignored him and lost.

In this case, I posted to someone who posted something of interest to me, regardless of their identity or motivation. The Taliban is portrayed as invincible in the press due to their mastery of terrain. If they all "flee to the hills" to retain same they become predictable. If predictable they make themselves vulnerable to the element of surprise, something that both Hannibal and Alexander both reveled in springing on their adversaries. All I am suggesting is that the Taliban's exclusive reliance on terrain may prove to be their Achilles heal. Many a mountain sanctuary fell to Alexander due to the element of surprise.
