It's probably exactly why he used the word... to put the fear into muslim fanatics that their call for "Jihad" will be met with a US "crusade".. I guess you don't understand the value of over-posturing and intimidation when it comes to dealing with a bunch of foreign thugs. This is where your sweet little view of democractic values break down... True democracy can only exist amongst other democracies. When facing brutal tyranny, democratic values are sacrificed temporarily until such tyranny is destroyed or neutralized. Just like the average American won't hit someone until they are attacked first... But then our pretense of civilized behavior is dropped and we quickly return to brutal human values of eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth... When someone has treated you brutally, you respond in kind (within self-imposed limits)... But I'm sure if someone were beating the hell out of you some night in a back alley, you'd just lay there and urge your assailant to remove all of the American landmines...
