Total volume traded could hit record levels on both the Nasdaq and the NYSE today.

The Nasdaq has already traded 965 million shares in the first ninety minutes of trading while the NYSE has turned volume of 930 million shares. Today is a triple witch with the expiration of options, futures and options on futures contracts. Options expirations tend to increase both volume and volatility in the markets as capital committed to those contracts is forced to find a new home.
