Don't wanna sound un-American, but I'm not a big fan of McGwire anymore....If these guys are going to be juiced, I like them to be average-sized (like Bonds, Sosa).. Pitchers....yeah, Carlton was amazing....that one year (72, was it?)...that might have been the greatest pitching ever by a lefty in one year. Gibson, of course, was amazing too.....its fun to hear him talk about the days when hitters EXPECTED you to throw it at their chin as they crowded the plate...and he did, and he was so good...he always hit the chin (and not higher up...) I've always preferred the finesse guys to Randy Johnson....guys like Maddux (who is a great athlete, surpringly...looks like an accountant, figure and all) Pedro is one of my faves too...(ok, he's a fastballer too...but average size...actually very skinny) The other day, I saw ESPN CLASSIC, and I saw a game from Bo Jackson...the only game I attended when I lived in NYC a decade ago....Bo had 3 home runs in first 3 at-bats, but then got taken out due to injury in the 6th.....he tried to catch a Deion Sanders (!) gapper...missed it....and Deion hit an inside-the-park grand slam....an incredible game between 2 sorry last place teams.... Bo was a Jordan-esque athlete...truly unbelievable some of things he did....a buddy of mine saw him play, Auburn-Florida at Gainesville...swears Bo hit a homer 600 hundred feet one time, but no one could measure it because hardly anyone could see where it landed....Bo had so many legendary plays/hits/things about him.......shame about his degenerative hip... BTW- When Bo came off the disabled list later that year (1990)..he hit a homer in his 1st at-bat, joining a select few (7 guys, perhaps) who hit 4 homers in 4 straight at-bats.. Man, I could go on all night....I used to memorize sports trivia as a kid......thanks for letting me mind-dump...feel free anytime...sports in a great release in days like these..
