London stock exchange checks building after alert
LONDON, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Some staff at the London Stock Exchange (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: LSE.L) were being allowed back into the building to check all was well following a security alert, police said on Friday.

The police, who would not say if it had been a bomb scare, said they had not yet given the final ``all clear'', but that would ultimately be the responsibility of LSE staff. The police said it expected the rest of the staff to be allowed back in at around 1230 local time (1130 GMT).

The evacuation of the LSE's main premises coincided with a dramatic sell-off in Europe's biggest share market. The market continued to operate as normal despite the evacuation.
