Agreed on all points.. but were the US to finally "deal" with Hussein, I believe Iraq would cease to exist as a nation, being subdivided up amongst it's neighbors (and I can imagine the brawl that would break out over the oil fields.. :0)

But Hussein, while not a "madman", does fancy himself as the Arab version of "Don Corleone" ("The Godfather" is reportedly his favorite movie) and he knows that unless he's intimidating and threatening his neighbors, his regime will falter.

I don't see a radical fundamentalist regime in Iraq... and if one arose, it would be Shiite..

Maybe they should install Tarik Azziz as Hussein's replacement... He's reportedly a "christian"...
