Agreed Nadine... no one wanted to deal with governing a post-Saddam Iraq.. We knew that he was the only one who could hold that state together, and the Turks certainly didn't want to see a Kurdish state formed in the north from which they could establish their claims on S. Turkey.

And you're absolutely correct about the Saudis being deathly afraid of Iranian influence on their borders.. And that's why we sat back and permitted Hussein to crush the rebel forces that rose up in the marsh lands after Desert Storm.. Just sat back and permitted his helicopter gunships to massacre thousands...

And I LOVE that "enuch" analogy... Hadn't thought of it quite that way before... but I think you've hit a bullseye...

And another piece of the Iraqi puzzle finally fits in place for me...
