Typhoon Deals New Blow to Taiwan Manufacturers

HONG KONG, Sept. 19 — Just as the world's air cargo traffic was beginning to flow
again, a deadly typhoon has disrupted production in Taiwan, one of the most
important suppliers of computers, semiconductors and other electronics to the United
States technology industry.

Typhoon Nari swamped Taiwan's capital, Taipei, with record amounts of rain on
Monday and Tuesday, killing 79 people, flooding streets, and shutting factories across
Taiwan. Most managed to reopen today, but local companies said the typhoon would
aggravate disruptions in production and shipping that began after the terrorist attacks in
the United States last week...
