8:37 (Dow Jones) WR Hambrecht recently visited four communications semi
companies - Altera (ALTR), Xilinx (XLNX), Marvell (MRVL), and Vitesse
(VTSS). Despite short-term disruptions as a result of attacks, all four
companies on track to meet previous expectations for current quarter, firm
says. Hambrecht also continues to believe the September quarter could be
revenue trough for industry, with flat to slightly up December quarter. Top
picks are Marvell and Altera. (TG)
8:30 (Dow Jones) Dull, listless, flat trading. What a beautiful thing. As
investors try to further come to grips with our recession and a riskier
outlook for equities, there's nothing wrong with a period of consolidation.
The bears had their shot Tuesday at bringing down the major averages, and
their inability to do so provides a small bit of near-term comfort. Goodyear
(GT) warns, as does Textron (TXT). Treasury prices moving higher, oil hovers
near OPEC's floor level, about $22 a barrel. (TG)
