Buy, hold, sell or jump?

Covered calls, st trading nothing seems to be working. Fully margined at this stage. Portfolio net sharply reduced. Question here is not to make money but of survival. I may take a loss and reduce margin. I need to have money to buy when (if I only knew) things stabilize. Currently, I own mxim, amat and sunw. All in red. Got rid of emc, orcl, nvls and lltc to take losses. I was positive till Aug. I do not want to pay taxes and sit on losing stocks. I may reduce my current positions and again start playing short term.

Two big mistakes.

Held stocks too long and kept losing (Against my own discipline)---lost money.

Bought stocks like sunw, itwo, orcl ( went outside my core stocks, mxim, lltc, amat, nvls, alter, txn) not that it would have helped

Back to short term plays.

8:57AM Niles Cuts Estimates : Lehman analyst Dan Niles cuts PC unit forecast to -5% from flat for 2001 and to 7% from 12% for 2002; cuts semiconductor revenue forecast to -31% from -19% for 2001 and to flat from 12% for 2002; says problem is now demand, not inventories.

[edit] FWIW, I had a -34% semiconductor revenue in my forecast and want to buy the group at a discount to that price. I am getting very close.
