The only mutual funds that I ever owned were in my IRA/401K. They've been 100% cash for about a couple of years now, after being 50% S&P, 50% Nasdaq index for several years.

I'll probably start legging my way back in, 10% per quarter, starting this quarter.

John and Thread, I heard on the news (radio) a moment ago that we now have planes in Russia, which the news made it sound like this step was a more definite step towards war against Afghanistan. They have also moved 30,000 tents to the area in preparation of Afghanistan refugees.

John and All,
This morning I offered the following suggestion to Intel's Investor Relations Dept. However,I need your help, this Thread's help and Technology Investor's in general help, to further promulgate the idea.

The Telecom and Technology Industry needs a "Killer Application" to rekindle demand. For many reasons the urgency to find this killer ap is IMMEDIATE, if we are to turn this Global economy around. The killer application which I suggest is to prevent killing.... To allow us in the United States, and throughout the World, to travel and move about with the sense of security that we had prior to September 11. Some of the technology needed to allow such an application is already available, but it needs the Telecom and Technology Industry's leaders to centrally coordinate efforts and develop standards so as not to waste resources. It needs Industry leaders, such as Intel, Cisco, Microsolft, HWP, Dell, etc. to get together and put their companies and this economy back to work, doing what we do best, finding and selling technology solutions.

I can think of many improvements that PCs can do now to improve physical security, but I'm sure there are more here that can do a better job.

Such a program, I believe, should be stimulated by the Government by giving research and investment tax incentives. These incentives should provide technology companies with a large motivation to develop such solutions very quickly. Further, the tax incentives could be funded, if the government chooses, by allowing tax payers to participate in its success, (simiular to War Bonds but now War Equities), with part of their social security payments. This of course would integrate what President Bush has already asked for.

I believe such a program would;
---Help Technology workers, and citizens in general, feel more potent That we are not just "helpless" and that we can fight back.
---It is a patriotic action for both Private Industry and the Government.
---It makes business sense because given the events of September 11, there is now worldwide demand for such products and solutions.
---It would turnaround the steady erosion of stock prices and technology stocks in particular, as investors rush in to participate.

If you believe there is something of merit here, I ask you to help me promulgate the idea. Repost this on other BBs. If you have suggestions for possible Applications, please post them here.

Thanks for your help,
Jules
