On your suggestion, they had an interview on French TV of the brother of that guy that was arrested earlier this year, who presumably was to take part in this series of attacks. (He'd tried to get flying lessons, but wasn't interested in landing and take-off, I don't have a link handy but it's been in the news.)

He was absolutely *furious* over the brainwashing he feels his brother has been submitted to in connection with his linking up with Islamist extremists when he left France and moved to London, and this goes back to about 1991.

England is a hotbed of "cells" that operate behind the scenes in these affairs due to their extremely liberal policies. France has yet to have extradited one of the key people who planned the terrorist attacks in the Paris metro in 1995 (I was working in the Paris region during this time and the RER line was the one I used frequently to go into the city; I'd been on the train on that very line two and a half hours before a bomb went off at the Port Royal station.)

But I still miss living there and wish I could go back, despite the "excitement".

LG, <<I call on all Arab and Muslim Americans to look within your own ranks to find those Arabs and Muslims that would use the shadows of those of you who love America, to hide in to evade capture or detection while they continue to plot and conspire to harm us. >>

I can just imagine the huge nationwide backlash that would rain on the Arab American community if another attack takes place. The only logical and safest thing for the Arab American community is to turn them in (if they know them) before anything else happens.

OT: For all the complex analysis, sometimes we forget that there are some common sense things we should have done and should now do to at least reduce the risks somewhat:
1. Recognizing (belatedly) that the person in the pilots' seat has the ablility to kill thousands of people at any time, create a secure environment in the cockpit. There are countless examples of parallel situations that could be used as models in jails, prisons, government installations, etc. It should be impossible for people armed only with box cutters and knives to get into the cockpit area.
2. Routinely investigate and monitor immigrants and visa holders for suspicious links to terrorist activities. Apparently U.S. citizens had little or no involvement in the Sept 11th attacks. When in doubt re non-citizens, detain them or deport them!
3. Whoever failed in his/her duty to take action re out-of control airliners should be fired, at the least. The plane that tried to destroy the White House and hit the Pentagon instead, traveled a long way after it left its established flight path without any military response.

LG: Re: "My biggest fear is even the death of over six thousand countrymen on American soil may not provide the impetus for Americans to retain their resolve long enough to see this through..."

Based on what I have seen since the tragedy, I do not share in that fear.
