I totally agree: energy independence is necessary.

Eventually we'll come up with some interesting technologies (if we are still around) to lessen our dependence on oil. For now we should be using our own.

Look at BLDP. On the rise. I own some drilllers and rig suppliers and am taking a bath, but looking down the road for when sanity prevails over the caribou. All this(drilling) can be done with environmental soundness to satisfy all. Our economic life depends on less energy dependence on the Sheiks and Venezuela radicals. If we looked at the most vulernable area of our economy it is oil. Close off the Straits of Hormez and disrupt the flow of oil and we be in terrible shape. I'm sure this thought is not a secret to bin Laden.
