But the real issue here is why are you jumping on my comments? I have not said anything that has not been said before...our military has had far from a clean slate in the past and its common knowledge.

There is this incredible effort to distance us from the terrorists but there have been some very ugly incidents in our past as well. And I think its important to remember that in these times where are going into battle again. Eventually this conflict will end and its in our best interest to carry ourselves as well as possible under the circumstances.

Ted, our military has done some awful things in the past but I think it is important to distinguish between deliberate polices of many years ago, isolated incidents that do not reflect deliberate policy and are not part of our national policy or plans in the more recent past, and current and continuing deliberate policy of terror and targeting civilians. I don't think you should white wash the bad that our military and our government has done but it is also wrong to argue moral equivalence saying that everyone is bad. I think that there is a clear moral difference between the US military and Al-Qaida. Yes the real world isn't just made up of the deepest darkest black and brightest shining white, but not everything this a dull drab gray.

I went out and missed it. I heard it was very inspiring...so much so, that they expected it to make the markets rally. Not so far but I keep hoping. <g>

The problem is things were bad even without the attacks. The terrorists, in addition to all the other destruction they caused, kicked the markets when they where down, both in points and in spirit.

Tim

ted Re..Tim, I was responding to Harry's holier than thou attitude re our military.<<<<<<

Where are you getting this from? Name me one quote where I said the military never killed any citizens.. And name me one time in the last 30 yrs. where the US military deliberately targeted innocent civilians like Osama targeted WTC.

our military has had far from a clean slate in the past and its common knowledge. <<<<<<<

And your point is?

Along these lines......a few days ago I told the thread of some remarks made by my friends the other nite. They condemned the Afghans in an incredibly hateful way and called for their extermination.

LOL Kind of reminds me of a guy on this thread who denigrates GW every chance he gets. His hate has been all consuming, attacking the air attacks by our military upon the SAM sites in Irag, calling him stupid, and his daughters degenerates. This guy probably has never met GW, yet his hate is all encompassing, and has lasted for a yr. already with no end in sight. Yes there are people out there who hate for no reason. At least your friends had a reason; over 6000 of their countrymen have died; and they are likely to be over it before you.

and I can't imagine that I said anything to provoke them <<<<<<<

Of course not.

During non combat, they seem like the typical all American guys or gals....but once they are in combat, there are times when all the rules are thrown out the window and that's when the atrocities are perpetrated.

Did you expect war to be any different?

I went out and missed it. I heard it was very inspiring...so much so, that they expected it to make the markets rally. Not so far but I keep hoping. <g><<<<<

It was a great speech. It has been called by many the best speech since Roosevelts Dec. 11th speech. Bill Clinton for all of his speaking ability will only be remembered for 7 words "I didn't have sex with that woman" Here Gw , in office only 10 months surpassed every speech Bill ever made.

We will make you into a GW fan yet.

When hell freezes over, Harry, when hell freezes over!<<<<<

Well you had better get ready. A friend of mine just called from hell and said it is getting awfully chilly down there.
