You are confused about many things. You are to closed minded to seek and find the true message of Christ. Your words say you have only had a belief based upon what imperfect men have told you. But as you saw their imperfections you decided they were liars and hypocrites. No man is perfect and with all you can find flaws. While I was growing up I had parents and met many religious and other adults who lived the true theme of Christ's teaching.
I also met a one or two intolerant religious and adults.

But I know many in many Christian religions find and understand the message of Christ to love on another. One of the central themes of Christ's message is that each individual is his child and all should be treated as our neighbor.

So can you go thru history and find Catholics and Christians who did not follow this theme? Off Course. But men who don't understand and do wrong do not invalidate the message of Christ. Did Christ live his message???

America and being an American is in understanding the theme that all men are created equal and are to be treated equally. I believe this individual equality theme a direct descendant of the themes of Christ and this is why Americans have become this great America. Other faiths in their core have tolerance. But Christian America created the critical mass where tolerance is the mindset of the overwhelming majority of Americans.
