Tim, this was about two years ago all throughout the South. Clinton made a big deal of it. I can't remember what sparked all the burnings.

I know Clinton made a big deal about. My point was that the evidence I have seen was that Clinton made a bigger deal out of it then it really was.

Sorry, but I don't have time to put them all down. Recently, I was reading a list of all the hate crimes in the past 5 years.

All isolated incidents that are shocking, but murder happens, and a lot of murders can happen in a country of 270 million people over 5 years. In many cases the people involved have been brought to justice. I would certainly condemn them just as I condemn Al-Qaida (anyone know what that translates to BTW?)

The terrorists attacks were not done by a standing armed force. It was done by private citizens acting on their own initiative and acting in a military way; meaning they are well funded, well organized, well disciplined and have very definite objectives.

They are part of an organized campaign against the US by an organization that has thousands of members and trains them to fight (and they have fought in actual battles in Afgahnistan). It wasn't just an isolated incident by a few private individuals.

And in the past, there were atrocities committed by the US military. Its been a while since I have read stuff on the Vietnam war but one of those atrocities, I believe, is the Mai Lai [sp] massacre....don't have time to look it up and confirm it. And that was not the only one.

The Mai Lai incendent was considered criminal by the US. We didn't do the best job in investigating and prosecuting it but it wasn't accepted policy by the organization (the US army) who's members commited it.

The communist in Vietnam did much worse then Mai Lai. Also the perpetrators of the massacre where under a greater threat of attack then the people who hijacked the planes. They didn't coldy plot the deaths of those they killed. Neither of these things exuses their conduct. There is no exuse for such conduct.

And I am not saying necessarily that that was wrong of us to do. War is hell. I just do not want to sit here and pretend that when we fire missiles, the people suddenly put on a happy face and flowers bloom.

I never made a statement that either directly claimed this or even implied it. To my knowlege Harry did not either.
As I said before the US military has not been a bunch of saints but that does not mean there is no important moral distinction between its actions and those of Al-Qaida. The attack on the Cole or even the Pentagon (if it didn't involve killing the people on the plane as well) could in a twisted way just be considered part of a war. The WTC was a totally civilian target. Also if the Cole bombing and the other attacks where part of a war on us then it was a war of agression by Al-Qaida. When was the last time the US was part of a war of agression? The Mexican-American war?

"I am not without sin, but I would not hesitate to throw any stone that would help stamp out Al-Qaida."

I am not saying you. I am saying the collective you...that makes up this country. I was applying the biblical phrase to the country as a whole, not to individuals.

Then my answer would be the same, just changed to reflect the US rather then me. We have not been without sin, but it is not wrong to cast stones at murderers who continue to plot their next murder.
