I am for maximizing the enemies casualties and minimizing ours.

That's fine, as long as we can identify who the enemy is. I doubt that they're hanging out with those goat herders in Afghanistan. I've read that these terrorists who are living here blend in so well that they are almost impossible to detect.

We do know that it couldn't be --Mike Buckley, as the terrorist manual says that there is to be no calling undo attention to oneself by nitpicking or sending letters of complaint.

Since it is clean, and the main killer is the blast or pressure from it, It should be an excellent weapon against troops in a rugged mountain area.

i suppose by clean you mean no hazardous fallout.

the fuel air bomb (FAB) is not new...it has been around since WWII. i believe it was invented and used originally by the Germans.
rumors are that FABs were used in the final days of nam...just outside saigon.
another rumor is that film clips of the bomb in use were sent to milosevic and helped him decide to surrender.
i know that it has been used in other conflicts by us and the soviets.

i agree that they could be very useful in difficult terrain...but it does not cover huge areas...it is definitely limited in scope and would imo be better deployed against known specific targets. there is a tv guided version.

there is a type of explosive device and mix called a dust initiator. FAB is a member of this family of devices. there are simple field expedient ways to make these from materials normally readily available...the formulas and techniques for use have been taught to our SF explosives and demolitions experts since the early 60s that i know of.

these devices are particularly useful for buildings...when you read about a building being demolished by an implosion, the demo team probably included a dust initiator in the charges.
