"Inviting Disaster" book by James R. Chiles

Hi KT - around 4'th September, a friend e-mailed me a link he'd stumbled on in connection with a discussion we were having about the Bhopal incident that took place in India some years ago...

Never dreamed we'd live such a horrific event so shortly after.

But the author of the book mentions something in connection with the engineering of the WTC towers on his site

I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the families and survivors affected by the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. And I want to express my respect to the engineers of the World Trade Center towers, who built them strong enough to take a horrific impact and fuel fire, one standing almost two hours before finally collapsing. This gave thousands of people the time to flee. It was a world-class achievement.

Fellow Knighty One,

"Dubya is talking the talk very well."
Yes, until this week I hear he thought the Taliban was a Fleetwood Mac Album.

Question: if "Luney" Bin Laden is captured and brought back to the US to stand trial who will represent him?
Johnny Cochran? Perhaps he can claim his client was practicing his golf swing while all of this was happening. "If the turban don't fit you must acquit."

KT -

...are as bad as the gas station owners who were charging $10 a gallon. ...

Thirty years ago I questioned a hi fi store salesman as to why he was charging $40 for a particular phono cartridge when the store downtown was quoting $25. He agreed that yes, $25 was his price too, when he didn't have any to sell.

Mike,

As strange as it may sound I don't think they were looking to maximize casualties this time round. They obviously weren't bothered by them but what they were going after were symbols of Americana, buildings not blood, otherwise they would have crashed into a sports stadium.

Mike, I like Mark Haines for exactly the same reasons you do. But he'll never be a hero to me. I saw him in a local Home Depot last year. He was wearing sweats. Not a pretty sight...Pete
