The writing is on the wall! The regulators in both Europe and the US will relax restrictions on mergers and Hp will benefit and this deal will sail through. Institutions and analysts are beginning to understand, accept, and actually are getting excited about this merger. I am starting to see an aceleration of Pro-Hp articles and product reviews. Once you remove all the Anti-Fiorina Sentiment and look at the facts the COMPAQ deal is a no brainer and good for shareholders in the long term. Hp is positioned to have their HP-UX operating system become the industry standard since it is the only operating system designed to specifically work with Itanium at this point. Hp will get royalty's from chip sales (MY Speculation) to boot but IMHO is keeping this quiet for competative reasons.

Hp is well positioned to become the Microsoft of the Unix world making SUNW & IBM even more irrelevent. Also Hp's new mid-ranger server the RP-8400 knocks the socks off SUNW & IBM and no other shoe from these company's is dropping. SUNW is extremely exposed because if the HP-UX operating system becomes an industry standard SUNW will go out of business sinse they only sell SOLARIS. They already said they will not put NT on thier boxes so the same will hold true for HP-UX I'm sure. They said they would never re-sell anybody's equipment either but now they are selling Hitachi high end disk drives and eating crow. If SUNW holds to their word and doesn't put NT & HP-UX on thier boxes they are finished IMHO.At this point both IBM and SUNW are way behind Hp and over the next 6 months Hp earning's will rise sharply IMHO even in this economy as IT departments look to consolidate IT systems with the RP-8400 and Hp mass storage solutions.

Per David Faber, CPQ "upgraded" by SSB on price. Faber said that it looked like SSB is making an arbitrage call in that CPQ is trading too low against HWP and that they feel the deal will go through. Put current value/target on CPQ of 10.
