To: average joe who wrote (28957 ) 9/22/2001 9:12:47 PM From: 2MAR$ Respond to of 82486 I took that as compliment BTW , AJ .... It is exactly for the self-preservation , health and growth of the society ,that wise men conceived and layed at it's foundation the separation of church and state. A place where immigrants like our Ayn Rand could come and dwell and find safe harbor to write . A place where many hardworking , intelligent and industrious law-abiding asian/orientals could finally arrive to pursue their dreams as well. Because of that openess the ranks of some of our most learned scientist, engineers ,researchers , teachers, artists , thinkers have swelled and we have become revitalized with each successive wave of new immigration of the Japonese ,Korean , Chinese , Indian/Hindu , and the Southeast Asian... ( the last, if you remember defeated the greatest superpower soundly , and pulled off one of the greatest known military campaigns in history...with bicycles in the jungle ) So they brought their custom ,traditions, and religion but something more, something new ...something vital and precious that enhanced us all. The same scriptures that our resident "fundamentalist" quotes from , were also very accessable to the founding fathers of our nation , too. And they were quite familiar with the gospel of Jesus Christ, but they were also just as familiar with the lessons of history, which is being repeated now ,over in the Middle East. Our society bends over backwards to be accomodating to the religious sensibilities , we even allow Jerry Falwells to run around loose and preach without locking them up. Yet there is something far more majestic in the promise and experience of freedom and democracy , that our founder's saw very clearly ... They were obeying a higher law , one of not being foolish and remain blind to what history showed them , and the dream of abundance and rennaisance...and freedom from tyranny of thought . Nice to live in a part of the world where an Ayn Rand isn't burned at the stake , stoned to death , shot in the head, or hung from a lamp~pole isn't it... regards Mars PS: Not mongoloid blood , joe ....though I would be proud to be of that line of decent . My people were simple sea-goers , the first to navigate around the world .
