Dan, Re: "Do you realize what a critical period Intel is approaching?"

I can't pretend to have a full grasp of this very critical period, but you certainly prove that you are in the dark.

With the terrorism attack, the consumer markets that AMD and VIA thrive in are going to be under a lot of pressure. Intel is not immune to this, either. But what Intel does have is their relationships in the business and Government markets, which will both need an exceptional amount of computing power in these coming days. Businesses need to compensate for damages lost, while the Government will have many new uses for computers.

Why else do you think Dell has run non-stop fulfilling orders since the attack? Who do you think is making money here? It's certainly not AMD!

<Meanwhile AMD now has the Gresham FAB>

When did that happen? Do you have a link?

Dan, <More that 100% of CPU unit growth is taking place in Asia (as sales in North America and Europe decrease) and VIA is absorbing most of that growth.>

My "Dan is tossing out claims without backup" alarms are ringing again. Can you silence those alarms for me?

Dan3 - You wrote AMD could be producing 25 million 64 bit hammers per quarter by early 2003.
This now appears to be very dubious -

Hammer Timetable
Our informant has told us that a possible early release of the first of AMD's next generation 64-bit processors is now beginning to appear in doubt.  Although it may not appear in early spring, the formal scheduled timeframe of 2H, 2002 does not appear to be in jeopardy.

I think this is the same fellow who - in very bold type in an earlier article - stated that the Hammer was already sampling. His subsequent denial is in much smaller type - a true journalist is he.

Dan3 - Do you want to revise your year-old estimates on Hammer?

Re:"Meanwhile AMD now has the Gresham FAB - designed for 300mm, copper, and sub .13 - to back up Dresden if it needs it. AMD could be producing 25 million 64 bit hammers per quarter by early 2003. Intel could find itself relegated to less than 50% of the CPU market as early as then."
