Well, that is the same strategy as employed by HWP, who lost money on printers, but more than made it up with ink cartridges.

The xBox is almost meant to be a give-away.

I have been eagerly awaiting XP.
Having upgraded nearly every MS product until Me.

I think MSFT shot themselves in the foot by not allowing backwards compatibility of hardware.

I get so frustrated trying to use some Modems and peripherals that need drivers that don't exist. (and are simply not compatible)

I finally said screw it. don't want to play that BS any more.

Why upgrade hardware when MSFT is going to kick you in the teeth. Just my opinion. I now tell people to wait until XP and buy the cheapest 'system' you can find that works. Don't plan on upgrading anything.

Just throw the system away because it's like buying paper plates. Fine to eat off of now but you don't want to wash it.

I think MSFT experimented with the profit margins and market of MSN (with all the rebates)

I think MSFT would be wise to offer some kind of stealth INTERNET that is an alternative to AOL (but is really just MSN). Call it something else like BS Net. or something.

SERIOUS off the cuff comentary:
