Ericsson signs further deal with China Telecom firm
By Total Telecom staff

20 September 2001

Ericsson said Thursday it had signed a follow-on contract with Zhejiang Telecom, a provincial subsidiary of incumbent China Telecom, to supply broadband IP equipment in the MAN.

Ericsson said it will provide additional AXI 580 back bone routers, a design based on Juniper Networks' M160, in order to boost transmission capacity in the Zhejiang province to 2.5 gigabits per second.

Ericsson originally signed a similar contract last October, and the deal, which will see more equipment deployed by the end of this October, is being seen as an expansion. It said it expected the network to be in trial operation by the end of this year.

Cities now connected to Zhejiang's backbone are: Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Taizhou, Shaoxing, Huzhou, Quzhou, Lishui, Jiaxing and Zhoushan.

Separately, Ericsson signed a deal with China Netcom Tuesday to provide AXI 540-7 edge routers for a MAN in Guangdong province.
