It sure did. As a matter of fact. Southern baptist became seperate from baptists over slavery.

That was why the war was fought.

And Religion is what caused the north to move against slavery.

If it would have been only about money the north would have backed off its position on making slavery illegal. But they forced it to war over their interpretation of the bible on the slavery issue.

The only place money came into play was in the south that depended on slavery for its economy.

And so you get a new demonination of a religon and interpretation of the bible over slavery.

Only the war settled the issue.
