Me? I favor a massive attempt by the West to free itself from hydro carbons as the basis of it's civilization. That would create an economic boom such as the world has never seen.

Me too. We've got to do it sometime, why not now? We would benefit in many ways.

I have always believed energy independence was a national security issue. And that's one of the reasons I voted for Bush... He recognizes that the US must not be held hostage to foreign oil (besides.. oil makes up a major portion of the US trade deficit).

This is one of the areas that I believe will prosper most over the next coming years... alternative fuels and nuclear power (using much safer and modern plant designs). I would love to see hydrogen advanced as the "fuel d'jour", with nuclear plants built to produce it using off-peak power. It's non-polluting, renewable.. and has an added benefit of adding humidity to the air (water vapor being the exhaust) which would be do wonders for desert regions.. :0)

And we'll likely come to that over the coming years.
