German Earnings Surprise Index I've been doing my own back-of-the-envelope check of German earnings since january 01 xave.de and this looks now to me like a confirmed down trend. The latest reading (week 39, ie last week) was 5 positive and 54 (fiftyfour) negative warnings!. There was first a flush of bad numbers at the break of 00/01, then some neutral weeks, and since week 10 (ie march) things are sloping off. Note that the numbers are warnings, that means they have been warning more and more on the negative side (it not (just) bad, its getting worse and worse - second derivative!).
