Watch CNN right now if you want to understand what the Taliban are doing to Afghanistan.

Oh my, you're the quintessential cynic, which is probably why you're a decent investor. I'd rather be a cynic than an optimist, in today's climate.

Well, I'm not sure the "hawks" are in control. Unlike the Clinton administration's waste of 60 cruise missles by launching them into empty tents and pissing away of 120 mil worth of valuable military equipment, Bush hasn't yet acted "for show".
If the military acts it must be with a plan, one that will work militarily and politically, near term and longer term
The Taliban are an extream group. While they control parts of Afganistan, they aren't a legitimate gov't, nor is there much hope they would permit any form of demrocracy or individual rights. I don't see too muchdifference between bin laden and the Taliban.
The Talibn want proof of bin lan's guilt. What a joke.
Given they've got a symbotic relationship with the hodge podge of terrorists groups that exist their, perhaps the best thing that could happen would be for the Taliban to "displaced" by a more moderate form of govt.
Throw in a democratically minded political group and arould 3-6 bil/year in aid and there might be hope for Afganistan.
