The PLO
In 1964 an Arab summit meeting established a "Palestinian army," the Palestine Liberation Organization, known as the PLO. Its primary purpose was to create a Palestinian State by destroying Israel through terrorism. One of the PLO groups, Al Fatah, was founded in 1965 and led by Yasir Arafat

PS I doubt Allies would vacate Germany (we still have troops there) if Hitler was still there

It's amazing how some of these revisionist historians continue to distort the events surrounding Israel's capture of the West Bank.

Israel did NOT invade... they COUNTER-ATTACKED and captured the region from Jordan.. Yes,.. the West Bank was part of the Kingdom of Jordan, having been ANNEXED by King Hussein's father and occupied by that Arab country for 16 years. And Jordan, despite Israeli pleas to remain neutral in the 1967 war, opted to through their lot with Nasser. And they got their butts kicked in the process.

And it's interesting to read that article that Goldsnow posted about the PLO being created to destroy Israel...

NOTE that Arafat did not create the PLO to wage a guerilla war against Jordan, which had occupied and ANNEXED the West Bank (stripping it economically in the process) since 1948, a full 16 years of occupation...

Also note, that Jordan killed thousands of PLO members in 1970 during "Black September", when Arafat attempted to stage a coup against King Hussein.

So as far as I'm concerned, if a nation attacks my country and I counterattack and capture his territory as a result, I HAVE NO OBLIGATION to return that land to them, nor to grant it independence.

And I think that's pretty much how the Israeli's feel..

And since Jordan finally gave any claim to the West Bank in 1989, they have put the ball effectively in Israel's court to deal with the Palestinian problem.

Certainly Jordan didn't want to deal with it... It was just an effective political tool for them to use, while they continue to keep their former citizens of the region housed in various refugee camps throughout Jordan.
