>Is there any substantial word on whether the US will be allowed access to the air base in Saudi Arabia?

Fred, come on, don't fall for the news yesterday that the Saudis refused to do that, it is all BS for public internal (Saudi) consumption. The US base in SA is not going anywhere and yes we will use it and we don't need permission from the fat kings. Whatever they tell their own people depends on the level of the "protest" anticipated. If it is much (which it will very likely be) they simply will say again something like "after continued pressure from the US govt the SA again refused to give permission" while the jets will take off towards Afganistan like always, we 'll simply say (if challenged, remember the quality of the free press allowed by the fat kings is pretty much non existent) our planes are going to patrol Iraq again<g>

It's simple really<g>
