[unless they are Catholic Irish in which case their walking stick probably has a sword, gun, Semtex, sarin or the like in it] This statement is offensive. Say what you want about the IRA but do not stereotype all Irish Catholics as terrorists, especially 80 yr old grandma's. If your going to talk about the problems in Ireland don't forget to mention the Ulster terrorists too. Also your way off base to say that the IRA's goal is to establish "one true religion". The whole problem in Ireland has much less to do with religion than you seem to think. People are not killing each other over whether or not you say Hail Mary's. Religion might be compared to a team jersey. The opponents happen to have a different jersey. If you go back in history religion has obviously played a part but much of the conflict also had to do with simple invasion and conquest and then with the have's and have not's along with associated discrimination. Previous invaders became part of the culture and didn't practice genocide. The folks who came over in 1690 however didn't become part of the culture, and some of their leaders tried to destroy it and its people. I'm not bring this up to support or excuse terrorism, far from that I reject it. I bring this up to balance your one sided portrayal of all Irish as terrorists and you gross insult in comparing them or the Catholic church to Bin Laden and his ilk. Its very sad that they haven't been able to reach a peace which seemed so close. I agree with your disdain of terrorism but you also seem to be packing some serious bias. That kind of attitude is part of the problem.

"I wonder what people of this thread would think of somebody who had sent money to Osama to help with the freedom fight so the one true religion can be ascendant. "

Sad to say, you did, and so did most on this thread.

The US sent $45 MILLION to the Taleban four months ago. Guess where that money went? Supposedly to fight drug production. Think any of it went into other enterprises? A bit of the old terror-ism, perhaps? Maybe some capital for a little entrepreneurial short-selling ahead of a highly-public atrocity?

Our own, out-of-control government, at work on our behalf, with too much money coming out of its ears, and no one is answerable to the citizens who get slaughtered as a result.

I guess it's not enough to simply train foreigners in the fine clandestine arts of assasination; we have to pay them for the privilage of mass-murdering thousands of us, besides.
