Tha assumption is that a good proportion of the "professional" traders observe the holidays, so there "moderating influence" may be withdrawn, thus bounces may occur on both. But it also depends a lot on where in the normal calendar these holidays fall and what was the trend before, it often simply signals a short term trend reversal. Here I believe that you would want to be relatively long since the trend was down till here and you are still a good span from "window dressing time"..
